Darn

Everyone goes on about how wonderful La Mer face cream is, how it is the one product that actually works - which begs the question why does the company (Estee Lauder I think) continue to make any others? Of course I wanted in on this youth carrying band wagon, but since the cost of La Mer is hilariously high, I did a little research first.
What I learned is that the back story to La Mer (burned astronaut makes his own healing cream) cannot be verified. The main ingredient is apparently marketing bullshit and that many people claim it is the same as Nivea Face Cream. So finding out that it was all hype and glory, no real substance was a downer. Being depressed I went shopping and bought some La Mer face cream.
What I really wanted to find was that this cream is an overpriced jar of hope and in many many ways it is. I wanted to waste my money once trying it and then move on to other less expensive brands with outrageous claims of youth. Bugger me if the damn stuff doesn’t work - its fantastic, I love it. I got complimented on my skin more than once (twice actually). I loved it so much I talked my sister into trying it - she hated it and said it was a waste of money.
The trouble is, it wasn’t meant to work, I don’t want to shell out the sort of bucks this cream costs every couple of months - but now I am afraid, I have to.
If you wanted to be scientific you could try using it on half your face - either the right side or the left - to see if you noticed a difference. You’d be on your own in this as friends might be lost for words.
Janet, That’s what I would like to do, but as you pointed out, it has social ramifications. Perhaps I should stop using anything and save the money for botox!
It is not a bad product, but the price is prohibitive - It’s just not sustainable to keep buying month after month. you start to think about how much good your money could be doing elsewear (or how many new outfits you could have bought).
I found a very similar product, based on Beeswax, that retailed for 12.50 and seemed to have just as good results. I think the main thing to do is keep using something.
Anonymous - you are the voice of reason, it is a stupid price and I’m sure there is something out there at a better price and that is just as good - don’t suppose you’d care to share the name of your Beeswax product?
I actually use a farily cheap brand face cream, but I also have an expensive one that I sparingly mix through the cheaper one. I mix up my own concoction! I couldn’t say for certain whether it really works or not, but it feels nice anyways
Tracy, I think that all any of these creams do is feel nice or not, none of them actually work, well not the way I want them to!
I have bought and used two bottles of La Mer and I will never buy this hope in a bottle again. It is no better than Nivea cream, I am sad to say.
La Belette, why did you buy the second bottle? Did you think that it needed more time to work? I’m asking because I am thinking of getting a second bottle and I know I shouldn’t.
