The other day iheartfashion and I were feeling a little flat and in need of some travel. As it is difficult in both our situations to actually do some travel we thought we might swap around and do some tourist in our own towns type posts, so we could get the feel of travel. So iheartfashion consider these your photographs, taken as I showed you around Perth, Australia (most isolated city in the world). If anyone else wants to join in on this bloggytourist thing please leave a link in the comments, we’d love it.
Everything looks lovely and green because it is winter around here – so it was a good time to photograph.
The tall buildings in the background are Perth City itself (cue applause). These photo’s were taken from the suburbs looking towards the city. The photo at the bottom is a little railway station, which is fairly typical on this line.

Top photo is a black swan at the local park. On the bottom is a fantastic shopping strip with all sorts of independently owned quirky shops and cafes. We would definitely spend a day here shopping and eating.
Speaking of eating, here is the lolly aisle at the supermarket. I always find other countries food shops fascinating (I hope thats not just me). So one last pic of the chocolates for sale for you (or really me)
I shall continue the tour another day.

Well, now I feel I’ve gone on vacation! I’ve always wanted to visit Perth.
Hi enc, i’ll be posting some more photos soon. Perth or rather Western Australia takes a long time to get around so if you do come, it had better be for a couple of months.
Proper photos at last. My daughter (resident in NZ) attended a conference in Perth last September but only sent pictures of the Zoo and Pinnacles Desert.
Ten years ago for various reasons (”You must be mad”) we moved to a very ordinary Midland town so – if the link works – here it is –

Janet, the link works perfectly and I had a great time going through the photos. The countryside is stunning and I love shops all decorated for xmas.
Your daughter chose two good spots for photos (aren’t the pinnacles just crazy?) but I am glad I can add to the picture for you.
What a great idea! I love to pretend I am a tourist in my own town and try to see it with new eyes.
If you want to see more of Perth and surrounds have a look at my Flickr site – http://www.flickr.com/photos/margeryx/
Hope that link works.
Now there is quite a bit of money floating around WA, our city is getting quite pretty. I will take some photos in “Town” as we call it – that’s the four main streets that make up the CBD – and post them here soon!
Great photos. I didn’t have any idea what Perth looked like. Thank you, Cybil!! So nice to see your environs.
Oh, and I am intrigued by the Turkish candybar. Do you know what’s in it?
Margery, I’d forgotten you had that set of shots – much better than the ones I took dammit.
La Belette, I don’t quite know how to describe a turkish delight to you. Its a rose flavoured jelly (not American jelly which is our jam, what do you call jelly?) in a chocolate coating. See how hard that was? Maybe someone could do better than me.
Mmmmm…chocolate.
Thanks for following up on this Cybill! I had no idea what perth looked like either.
As soon as the temp drops below 98 and it’s safe for me to emerge from my home again, I plan to do the same.
Iheartfashion, no problem, it was really fun driving about and looking at these things like a tourist.
Oh what a nifty idea! I’d love to play along! I’ll start snapping some touristy type shots of BrisVegas to share. I enjoyed seeing some of the sights of Perth as I’ve never visited there. Looking forward to seeing some more!
Turkish Delight chocolates are SOOOOO Yummy! Your description was fairly spot on I think
Tracy, that would be fantastic, but you’ll make people jealous, BrisVegas photographs very well! I’m glad you agree with my turkish delight description too.
Hi Cybill,
I should have been visiting Sorting It Out more regularly since my sister (at http://gervorama.blogspot.com/) told me about you, but I’ve spent a little while here this evening and really enjoyed myself, thanks!
I have loved seeing your tourist tour of Perth (part 1). It’s great to get a fresh perspective on the place. I am ashamed to say that after a year here I still couldn’t tell if you took the photo of the city skyline from north, south, east or west!
I don’t really like shopping, but I’m with you on the foreign food shops. And please, please, PLEASE tell me where is the “fantastic shopping strip with all sorts of independently owned quirky shops and cafes” that you could spend a day shopping and eating in.
And LBR, are you and Gervorama on mailing address terms? I’d love to send you a Turkish Delight for you to try. I’m not a big fan myself, but some people love them, and you should definitely try one.
Elle, I’m glad to got to visit my blog – I’ve been enjoying Gervys for a while and I often visit yours, you do seem to get out and about a lot! The shopping strip, is Mount Lawley, if you go, make sure you wander down every mall and side street (and stop in at the Leaf Merchants for the Parisian Morning Tea – you need to pre-order). My personal favourites are *ware, mariposa, Store and Libertine, so put them on your list, ok.
Phew, thanks so much for replying and for the tips! I have only been to Mt Lawley briefly on a couple of occasions – once to the 24-hour chemist and once to shop but it was too hard because it was pouring with rain. Now I am going to check the weather forecast and get a babysitter and do it properly. I promise to do a blog post on the expedition. I’ve been to Leaf in Cottesloe and seen the ad for the Parisian Morning Tea, so that’ll be on the list too. Thanks again!
